Francis (Frank) Engert, long-time Aurora, CO resident, passed peacefully on October 9, 2019. He was born on October 1, 1931 to Joseph and Mary Ellen (Flynn) Engert. He had just celebrated his 88th birthday surrounded by family.
He was born in Tottenville, NY, on Staten Island. After graduating from high school, Frank served in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1952 and was a radio operator stationed in West Germany. Afterward, he attended the RCA Institutes radio school in New York City.
He started working for United Airlines in 1954 at Midway Airport in Chicago. He met his wife Cathryn there, who also worked for United. They married in 1956. In 1962, they transferred to Aurora, CO where he worked at the United Airlines Training Center at Stapleton as a simulator technician. He retired in 1994, after nearly 40 years with United.
In his retirement, he volunteered as an ambassador at the newly built Denver International Airport. He always loved everything about the airlines and travel.
He took his family traveling to many cities across the United States; and later travelled all over the world with his wife, visiting many exotic places. He had a keen interest in geography and history. Frank also loved to barbecue and hosted many family events at their house in Aurora.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Cathryn, and his four children: Lizabeth (Brad) Boswell, Steven (Carlos Mejia), Suzanne (Tim McMaster), and Daniel (Kathy); and four grandchildren: Sarah (Matt) Burnham, Meghan, Caitlin and Joseph.
Special thanks to the Brookdale Hospice team who were so kind and helpful to Frank and his family.
