Richard George Swoboda, 91, died Sunday, October 6, 2019 at his home in Arvada.
He leaves his wife of 68 years, Jeanette ( Eckelkamp); his daughters, Mary Kay (Jerry) Smaldone, Donna(Rick)Delauriers, Patricia(Jim)Raley and Julie(Rob)Cox ; his son, Mark Swoboda; his grandchildren, Jesse, Jannelle, Alissa, Nathan, Jeannette, Bridget, Marissa, Michael, Vincent, Juliana, Spencer, Karley and Elora; his great grandchildren, Noah, Lacie, Joshua, Sophia, Olivia, Averie, Jayce, Lulu and Elijah.
He is preceded in death by 4 brothers, Leonard, Victor, Maurice and Alfred; 4 sisters, Virginia, Anna Rose, Dorothy and Marilyn.
Richard was born in Washington, Missouri, son of Julius and Julia (Aholt) Swoboda. He spent his childhood on the family farm. After graduating from Francis Borgia high school, he joined the Naval reserves. WWll had just ended, and at the age of 17, he was sent to Guam. After his year of service, he enrolled at the Missouri School of Mines. He graduated with a degree in engineering.
He was employed with the U.S. Geological Survey as a cartographer for 35 years.
He met Jeanette at a parish dance. They were married in June of 1951. In 1963, he moved the family to Colorado.
Richard was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting.
He was a longtime member of the Elks Lodge. He had a passion for learning and loved American history. His favorite hobbies were gardening and photography.
Funeral services will be held at Shrine of St. Anne Catholic Church. 58th and Webster, Arvada, CO 80003.
Rosary 9:30am followed by the Funeral Mass at 10 am.
Reception at the Amercan Legion, 6230 W. 60th Ave., Arvada, 11:30am.
