Sandra Joanne (Maier) Irvine, 78, of Centennial, CO passed away on October 6, 2019 with her family by her side.

Sandra, or “Sandy Jo” to her friends, was born in Cedar City, UT to John A. and Irene Brick Maier on March 19, 1941. The family moved to Denver, and Sandra attended grade school at St. Vincent de Paul and graduated from St. Francis De Sales Catholic high school in 1959. Sandra then attended Our Lady of the Lake College in San Antonio, TX, where she earned a B.A. in Math and minored in both Accounting and Ancient Philosophy in 1963.

After college graduation, Sandra did a year of volunteer work at the Newman Center in Lawrence, Kansas and then moved back to Denver where she worked as an accountant at Dunton & Dunton real estate company. In 1965, Sandra started working at Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Aurora as a computer coder in research and development.

Sandra met Richard Irvine quite by chance at a friend’s party, and the two were married in October of 1966. The couple had one child, daughter Joanne, in 1968, and Sandra gave up her cutting-edge career to raise and nurture their little family.

Over the past decade, Sandra battled numerous health issues and physical ailments without complaint. She took on each new challenge with determination and grace. Sandra was a role model of Christian humility and was truly a saint in-the-making.

Friends and family will remember Sandy Jo for her love of puzzles, her artistic ability, and her sense of humor. She was not a fan of small talk, but she loved to have real and meaningful conversations. Her laughter was authentic and infectious.

Sandra is survived by her husband, Richard, her daughter, Joanne (Dennis) Clark and grandchildren Emma and Collin Clark, her brother John (Karen) Maier, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, John A. and Irene Brick Maier, her brother, Robert Maier, and her sister Mary Sheila Imhoff.

Funeral services will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Centennial on Friday, October 18th at 11:00 with a reception at the Padre Restaurant immediately afterward from 12:00-2:00pm. Burial will follow at 2:45 pm at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery.

The family would like to thank all of the staff and volunteers at Porter Hospice at The Johnson Center for their immeasurable kindness and outstanding care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Porter Hospice at www.rmahf.org/porter-hospice-foundation for the Porter Hospice Residence program.
